Lexus x MSCHF

MSCHF partnered with RISTICH to turn science fiction into reality for Lexus.

Overview

Imagined as cars that have stopped behaving like cars, the sculptures put two Lexus electrified vehicles through digital operations. The RX 450h+ is wrung into a full longitudinal twist, while the RZ 450e is stretched and looped nose-to-tail into an endless drive. Developed with MSCHF as "Form Cars" rather than concept cars, both pieces translate the elastic geometry of 3D animation into full-scale objects built to hold up to close inspection. Debuted during Armory Week in New York, the sculptures made familiar luxury vehicles feel unreal, the kind of objects viewers walk around twice to believe. By engineering screen-native distortions into physical form, the project collapses the distance between the render and the road.

Promo video for Motomorphosis, the Lexus x MSCHF exhibition at New York’s Armory Week, showing two full-scale Lexus vehicles twisted and looped into sculptures.

MOTOMORPHOSIS debuted during New York's Armory Week, where it unsettled the usual car reveal by taking away the specs and the showroom and leaving only the form. Visitors could walk the full length of each sculpture and get close enough to see that every impossible curve was real. By turning a digital distortion into something people could stand next to, we helped make the Lexus electrified lineup one of the most widely covered design moments of the week.

We bridged the gap between the screen and the showroom floor, building two Lexus vehicles that feel warped beyond reason yet precise down to every panel line.
